Vlogging’s popularity has increased massively recently, with a number of people creating their own YouTube channels and uploading videos that document their everyday lives, with the goal of becoming the next YouTube sensation. It seems like everyone is doing it, some vlogging daily, while others post vlogs from time to time showing the most interesting activities they engaged in over a particular period of time.

If you’re thinking about becoming a vlogger, you’ll need certain bits of equipment that will help you get your vlogging adventure up and running. Without these essential bits of gear, you can’t record your daily whereabouts and make awesome vlogs, can you? Before you start brainstorming ideas for your vlog, take a look at all the equipment essentials that you will need in order to share your unique personality with the world.

Camera

This one is pretty obvious, right? You know you need a camera for your vlogging venture, but there are so many different options out there it can be difficult to decide which one is right for you. The key is to start with any camera that will provide you with high-quality videos because, if you are going to stick with vlogging as a hobby or even a career choice, you can be sure that you will upgrade your camera as you go.

Therefore, you don’t a need a ridiculously expensive camera in order to start vlogging. You can create excellent videos using the built-in webcam on your computer, and you can even use your smartphone.

Still, when it comes to a good camera for vlogging, you can choose an entry-level DSLR, a camcorder, a mirrorless camera, or even the wildly popular GoPro camera. The one you choose depends mainly on your own preferences and experiences, and perhaps most importantly the type of videos you will create.

Tripod

Even if you get the best camera available, you still need to invest in a good tripod. Without it, your videos may turn out to be shaky, which viewers certainly won’t like. In this case, a good camera is only as good as the tripod it’s attached to, if you have a heavier camera it’s even more vital to have a good quality tripod so that your video content is impeccable

If you keep your camera on your desk, make sure you mark the spot with tape, for instance, so that the framing in all your videos is always consistent. Also, if you do some filming on the go with a GoPro camera, make sure you have a selfie stick, since that way you will create much better videos.

Microphone

People will tolerate, or even not really notice lower quality video, but bad quality sound is enough to make people switch off. Good quality sound is vital, with this your audience will follow you anywhere despite the picture not being as good as it could be. If there’s something that people can’t forgive so easily, it’s bad audio.

This is why you need to have a great microphone at hand to ensure that the quality of your audio is always at a high standard. To accomplish this you should use an external microphone, as they are the best microphones for vlogging. Those built into cameras or in computers cannot really record high-quality sound. You can choose between a shotgun microphone, a USB microphone, or a lavalier microphone.

Lighting

When it comes to indoor filming, while you should definitely make sure you work with as much natural light as possible, you need to have additional lighting if you want to achieve a professional look and avoid having any shadows on your face. That is why you should pick up a great lighting kit, a soft-light kit is worth looking into, and will help you create awesome indoor videos.

Video Editing Software

In order to edit every piece of content you film and create truly effective videos that your followers will love you’ll need to use a good video editing software. The good news is that most computers have basic video editing software, so your computer may be more than enough for you to edit all of your recorded content.

However, if you want to push the boat out and get creative, there are a lot of excellent types of video editing software out there, such as Adobe Premiere Pro and Apple Final Cut Pro X, for instance, so make sure you choose the one that will best fit your needs.

It’s likely that you will invest in more stuff as you go, but these five equipment essentials are definitely a starter kit that you need in order to become a vlogger.
