Aspiring fashion photographers, designers and models hoping to learn new tricks will be able to learn from the comfort of their own home this month, when Belfast-based fashion photographer Glenn Norwood streams a three-day masterclass entitled Lights, Camera, Fashion.
Working with Engage Live, the award-winning elearning platform for aspiring and professional photographers based in Derry~Londonderry, Norwood will take viewers through his award-winning creative process from start to fantastic finish.
The three-day class, streamed online from 10am to 4pm on October 27 – 29, will feature two live model shoots involving the stunning Sophia Mitchell and Claire Gunn, and include practical advice that fashion photographers and models will be able to take away and apply to their own practice.
Known for his use of bright colours, unconventional styling and eye-catching props, Norwood graduated not with a degree in photography but a Bachelor of Arts in both Art & Design and Interactive Multimedia Design. That background is reflected in his idiosyncratic commercial style, which has seen him receive the Kodak European Gold Award on no less than on three occasions.
‘I can’t wait to educate aspiring fashion photographers, and those searching for new ideas and inspiration, some of my tried and tested techniques,’ says Norwood. ‘I’ve never streamed a class online before, so this opportunity with Engage Live is going to be as exciting for me as it will hopefully be for those watching.’
Viewers will be able to access half an hour of Norwood’s class absolutely free, and will then be able to purchase the class at 50% off while the broadcast is live. Engage Live will then make the recorded content available to those who bought access to the full live stream to subsequently learn from on-demand. Alternatively, you can pre-order access to the stream and the full recording now for the reduced price of £75.
Engage Live has worked with some of the best photography teachers in the business, and was recently awarded eLearning Provider of the Year 2015 at the DANI Awards. Norwood’s class is the second fashion class that the platform has delivered, following From Concept to Completion by Andrew Appleton.
During his Engage Live class, Norwood will explain how he goes about developing mood boards to set the tone for his fashion shoots, brief his creative team and direct his models live on-air to achieve his desired aesthetic.
He will show how he uses different lighting set ups and props to create stunning commercial images, and give advice to photographers and models on how to think outside of the box to capture unusual images that editors and other clients will love.
The final day of his class will involve post-processing of the images taken on days one and two, featuring editing tips using Photoshop and Lightroom software, and finish up with business essentials for selling your commercial work to clients.
‘Coming from a fine art background, I love trying to be as creative as possible in my work,’ adds Norwood. ‘Fashion photography encourages me to get as crazy as my imagination allows, and my Engage Live class will definitely show others how to do the same.
‘So, if you’re a photographer hoping to learn new tricks, a designer hoping to view how hair, makeup and clothes are handled during shoots, or a model hoping to learn new poses and how to conduct yourself on a professional set, this class is a must-see.’
