After being named eLearning Provider of the Year at the 2015 DANI Awards earlier this month, Derry-based photography training platform Engage Live last night won Best Corporate Educational and Science Blog at the Blog Awards Ireland.

Launched in January 2015, Engage Live streams photography classes live online and offers the recordings as paid for educational content to access on demand.

The Engage Live blog compliments the company’s growing archive of classes, and features free informative video blogs and written blogs on everything from how to brand your photography business to tips on breaking into niche markets like newborn, fashion and food photography.

Blog Awards Ireland celebrates the best Irish blogging across sectors, and this year held its glitzy ceremony in the Tivoli Theatre, Dublin.

Engage Live made the shortlist in the Best Corporate Educational and Science blog category after a public vote, and was thereafter named winners by an independent judging panel.

‘We’re over the moon to come away with this award,’ said Engage Live founder Donal Doherty. ‘It shows that our cutting edge team of in-house digital experts and growing pool of professional bloggers from around the world have their fingers on the pulse.

‘The blog is one of our premium landing pages, meaning that it attracts a great deal of organic traffic to our website. Not only did our content impress the Blog Awards Ireland judges, it also proves useful to so many aspiring and professional photographers from across Europe and further afield, and that, at the end of the day, is what Engage Live is here to do.’

In its first year, Engage Live has welcomed some of the biggest photography teachers in the industry to its studio in Ebrington’s 8081 Workspace, including A-list American wedding photography Sal Cincotta and South African commercial photographer Brett Florens, who has shot campaigns for Wonderbra, Puma and Quiksilver.

The 2015 Blog Awards Ireland ceremony had a burlesque theme, with all those invited encouraged to dress for the occasion. There to accept the award for Engage Live was live stream presenter Tom Nicholl, who attended in suitable three-piece suit and cravat.

The Engage Live blog was deemed by the Blog Awards Ireland judges to have been written in an engaging, entertaining and informative style, is easy to navigate, complimented by the visual style of the Engage Live website and makes you smile, from a grammatical point of view, rather than cry into your dictionary.

And, in a surprising turn of events, Engage Live founder Donal Doherty, one of Ireland’s most in demand wedding photographers, was also successful at the awards, having scooped the Best Photography Blog award for his dynamic wedding blog.

‘All in all, it was a great night for the Engage Live family,’ said Doherty. ‘Our thanks go out to the Blog Awards Ireland team and everyone who voted for us. Here’s to another year of the very best blogs in the business!’
