In July 2015, the amazing wedding and portrait photographer Richard P Walton traveled to Engage Live HQ in Derry, Northern Ireland to deliver a three-day masterclass.
The class charted Richard’s career, from stumbling into photography at school to winning multiple awards and touring the world as the official photographer of the Gumball Rally.
Weddings and commercial portraiture work now play a big part in Richard’s current output, however, and his Engage Live class reflected that also.
To celebrate Richard’s recent success at The Societies of Wedding & Portrait Photographers’ prestigious industry awards in London, where he was named Documentary Photographer of the Year in the 20×16 category, we’re pleased to bring you an extract from Richard’s Engage Live class. Register to the Engage Live website and access the stream for free on our Live page from 10am on Friday, January 29.
During the class, Richard shot three live model set ups – one involving a bride and groom, the other two involving individual male and female models – which were followed up with intensive post-processing tutorials using Lightroom and Photoshop.
In this rewatch, we’ll be streaming the one and a half-hour bride and groom shoot, in which Richard works with models Emmette and Jasmine on a mock midday set up as per the average real life wedding day.
Known for his eye-catching compositions and unorthodox approach to couples portraiture, Richard climbs trees, plays with perception and stages shots that will ultimately make for stunning composite images in a non-stop masterclass.
